Dr. Stephen Obeng, DMD, MS
Dr. Stephen Obeng was born in Boynton Beach, Florida but grew up on the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago before moving to Ormond Beach with his family. Dr. Obeng completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) program at Spruce Creek High School. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Pre-Clinical Health Science and continued his education in Biomedical Sciences at Barry University in South Florida in an accelerated Master’s program. Dr. Obeng then began dental school at the University of Florida’s College of Dentistry. While in dental school, Dr. Obeng was the community service coordinator, participated in Dental Ambassadors, Admissions Outreach Ambassadors, yearly mission trips to Jamaica and Dominican Republic, and was co-founder of the annual philanthropy at UF called Super Sealant Saturday, which provides preventative dental services to low-income families in the Gainesville community.
Following dental school, Dr. Obeng chose to further his education by participating in an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency program at the Orlando VA Medical Center. During this program, Dr. Obeng expanded his knowledge on implant placement, implant restorations, socket preservation, restoration of vertical dimension of occlusion, anterior esthetics, root canal therapy and management of medically compromised patients. Dr. Obeng is a member and fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologist (ICOI). Dr. Obeng is fully committed to excellence in patient care, and looks forward to treating your dental needs!
In his spare time, Dr. Obeng enjoys spending time with family and friends, trying authentic cuisines, attending church, and outdoor activities such as biking, running, and swimming!
Dr. Fred A. Fox, DDS
Dr. Fox graduated from Virginia Commonwealth in 1990 and has been practicing dentistry for the past 30 years. He and his wife Diane celebrate more than 40 years of marriage and have 3 children and 4 grandchildren. Dr. Fox loves to spend the weekends flying planes and watching his 8 year old daughter at karate. When he is not at the office, he is likely at the beach, taking his family out on the boat!
Dr. Galia Medrano, DMD
Dr. Galia Medrano was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and grew up in Tampa, Florida. She started exploring her interest in dentistry when she was in high school. Dr. Medrano would spend her summer vacations volunteering in a low-income dental clinic in Aguascalientes, Mexico. This is where her desire to become a dentist and help people was confirmed. She graduated from Alonso High School in Tampa and attended the University of South Florida, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences. During her time at USF, she was the President of Operation Smile. This is a non-profit organization that provides free surgeries to children and young adults in developing countries who are born with cleft lip, cleft palate, or other dental or facial conditions. She also worked at a pediatric dental office where she did everything from taking radiographs to comforting children during their dental procedures. Dr. Medrano then went on to attend dental school at the University of Florida College of Dentistry in Gainesville, Florida. There, she served as President of the Dental College Council, Senator for UF Student Government, and was part of the first dental educational service trip to Cuba in over 50 years.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Medrano enjoys an array of activities. On weeknights, she likes to work out and have a quiet evening with her husband, whether it be cooking dinner together and watching a movie or going out to a local restaurant. On weekends, when not catching up with family and friends or having other commitments, you can expect Dr. Medrano and her husband to be packing a weekend bag and going on a spontaneous getaway. Furthermore, coming from a large family, caring for people and even animals has become second nature to her.
Dr. Ronak Parikh, DDS
Dr. Ronak Parikh was born in St. Augustine, Florida. He grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida. He attended Palm Beach Gardens High School’s Medical Magnet Program. This lead to his interest and ultimate desire to pursue a career in medicine.
Later, he attended the University of South Florida in Biomedical Science and received his Master’s degree in Biomedical Science from Barry university
Roseman University College of Dental Medicine. While in dental school, Dr. Parikh was the Vice President of his class, the community outreach coordinator of the American Student Dental Association, Student Selection Committee for the university, and was a coordinator for annual dental supplies to the Philippines. He was awarded the Student advocate award in his third year. He was also awarded the Lifelong Volunteer award for his numerous volunteer and outreach works.
When he is not in the office, you can find him spending time with his family and friends. He loves to travel to new and distant places, to read voraciously, to find the best dessert, and to work on his dental skills
Cassie Simon – Clinical Administrator
Cassie attended Whitehall Home Office School, and began her career in the dental industry with Cooper Dental Group in 2011. Born in Atlanta, GA , she moved to Ormond Beach, FL in 1995.
Cassie has two beautiful children, Aubree who is seven and Jackson who is four. She and her children enjoy being involved with their church, Salty Church in Ormond Beach, FL, for the last several years, and Cassie also serves in the ministry. Cassie loves going to the beach, and spending time with her family. Her sisters and mom continue to be a huge support of her career goals in the dental field!
When we asked Cassie what her favorite thing about working with us is, she said she loves her patients, and loves working alongside our wonderful staff!
Crystal Lakin – Clinical Team Leader
Crystal went to Greater Orlando Assisting School, and has been with Cooper Dental Group since 2013. She is a native of Central Florida, and lives with her husband Tommy, whom she married in 2010, and their two children – Brandon – 16 years, and Crystal – 15 years.
Crystal loves to run and enjoys participating in half marathons and spending time with her teacup shorkie. Crystal’s favorite thing about working at Cooper Dental Group is helping others feel good about their smile!
Crystal Koenke Case – Front Desk Team Leader
Crystal is a Certified Dental Assistant and has been with Cooper Dental Group since 2013. She was born and raised in Daytona Beach and was a gatorette at the University of Florida.
Crystal has an eight year old daughter who loves gymnastics, dance, and competitive baton. They also enjoy going out on the boat and four wheeling!
When we asked Crystal what her favorite thing is about working with us, she said she loves to smile, and she is passionate about helping others to love their own smile as well!
Jill Hettel – Hygiene Team Leader, RDH
Jill Hettel has been in the dental field for over 25 years. She worked for a local periodontist for 23 years where she learned to help patients with gum disease and bone loss issues. She graduated from Florida Community College in Jacksonville in 1990 with an R.D.H. degree.
When asked why she became a hygienist her answer was that she wanted to participate in helping patients maintain good oral health. She enjoys working individually with patients to educate and motivate them to meet their dental needs, and she likes getting to know each one of her patients personally.
Jill has been married to David since 1994. She has a 16 year old son, Christian, and two dogs, Roka and Chloe. She’s very passionate about helping people in need and volunteering her time in the community. Jill loves to travel and spend time at the beach.
Michelle Capadona – RDH
Michelle Capadona has worked in the dental field for 20 years. She graduated from Daytona State College in 2002 with an R.D.H. degree. Michelle has been with Cooper Dental Group since 1999.
When asked why she became a hygienist, her answer was that she had always loved getting her teeth cleaned and felt very comfortable going to the dentist. Michelle said she wanted to make other people’s dental experience a nice and relaxing one. She enjoys making people feel safe and at ease when getting their teeth cleaned.
Michelle has been married for 16 years, and she has 3 dogs and 2 cats. She and her husband love spending time with their furry kids. Michelle enjoys yoga, running, and exploring new restaurants in her spare time.
Kelly Parks – RDH
Kelly Parks has worked in the dental field for 19 years. She graduated from Daytona State College in 2002 with an R.D.H. degree. Kelly has been with Cooper Dental Group Since 2007.
When asked why she became a hygienist, her answer was that she wanted to work in a profession that she would be able to help and educate people about their oral health. She loves the one-on-one relationship that she makes with each of her patients.
Kelly has 2 rescue dogs whom she loves dearly, they are her fur-babies! Kelly has been married to her husband for 7 years. She enjoys boating and spending time with friends.
Melissa Miller – RDH
Melissa Miller has worked in the dental field for over 25 years. She graduated from Florida Community College in 1990 with an R.D.H. degree. Melissa has been with Cooper Dental Group since 2012.
When asked why she became a hygienist, her answer was that when she went to the dentist as a child, it was always a positive experience, and she wanted to help other people feel the same way.
Melissa has been married to Jay for 26 years, and they have 2 daughters, Malia, 20 and Kylee, 16. They also have 3 cats and a dog. She loves to travel, going to the beach and anything water related.
Jackie Schmidt – RDH
Jackie Schmidt is proud to be one of the hygienists at Cooper Dental Group! She has worked in the dental field for over 16 years. She began her dental career as an assistant while studying her way through dental hygiene school, graduating with High Honors in 2011 from Daytona State College.
She is happily married with one child, an amazing daughter! Jackie is originally from Long Island, NY, but spent most of her life growing up in Port Orange, FL, which is where she currently resides.
During her spare time she enjoys watching her daughter play sports, along with boating, swimming, biking, gardening and most of all spending time with family and friends!
Jackie loves her career choice. She likes when patients are comfortable, happy and healthy. Her future plan is to keep providing patients with the most up-to-date dental information, along with proper oral health care for many years to come.
Kim Klem – RDH
Kimberly Klem has been a dental hygienist with Cooper Dental Group since 2015. She has been in the dental field for 20 years starting off at the front desk before going on to become a dental assistant. Having a love for dental hygiene she went to school and graduated from Daytona State and has been a hygienist for over 15 years.
Kim is married and has 4 daughters and 5 grandchildren. She is a native Floridian currently living in New Smyrna Beach.
Kim loves being a dental hygienist and is looking forward to many more years of making happy and healthy smiles!
